Westcliff received its initial approval with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education in 1993  and is accredited under the WASC Senior College and University Commission. Westcliff is comprised of a College of Business, College of Education, College of Technology & Engineering, and Western State College of Law. Westcliff University offers graduate and undergraduate certificates and degree programs intended to prepare students for immediate entry and advancement in their respective industries.

The university moved to a new campus in 2018, located in the Von Karman Creative Campus area of Irvine, California. The new location expanded the university’s campus space more than four times larger than the previous facility. The campus is centered by the main building housing classrooms, faculty offices, administrative services, and study areas, as well as a multipurpose building for athletics and recreation, career fairs, and other events. In 2020, it moved to the nearby Intersect Campus area of Irvine.

Westcliff University’s primary goal is to support the integration of classroom instruction into the real world of business, STEM, and education. Students at Westcliff University learn from professors working in the field, providing a special opportunity to learn from enlightened and practical instructors.

Graduates are viewed favourably by employers due to the reputation of the University. During their time as a student, the Career Services department offers workshops, seminars, and one-on-one counseling sessions to help students to develop their CVs and cover letters, interviewing skills, and job search strategies.
